Pointers for being a Good Prayer Soldier

Important Qualifications:

  1. A commitment to pray
  2. Confidentiality (there is a point when information must not stay confidential)
  3. Ability to listen
Being a Good Prayer Soldier:
  1. Come as a servant. Be conscientious about their time and schedule when asking for prayer requests and or praying with other staff.

  2. Praying for others has no inherent guarantees. Remember that it takes time to build trust. You cannot push intimacy or relationship. It is your job to be faithful in prayer. Seek God as a servant, asking for His wisdom in how to pray.

  3. Esteem the value of each prayer request as equally important. Our God is just as concerned about a staff who lost a CD, as he is about another staff having regular devotions. He hears and answers both, and therefore we need to have a heart for both. We also need an equal respect for both in the area of confidentiality (i.e. the lost CD may also require a degree of confidentiality). Pass on requests with permission.

  4. Please be careful not to make "blanket promises" of confidentiality. Information about someone who is doing something illegal cannot be kept confident. Also, prayer is not an excuse to continue in hidden sin. If this type of information comes to you, please advise the Director. Either the staff member will have to admit a need for help and repentance, or submit that they are not ready to serve at Sagitawa.

  5. If during prayer, you believe that God is giving you some information about a staff member, be sensitive about expressing it. Also pray for discernment about the purpose for the information. Perhaps it is God's way of asking you to intercede.

  6. Though we want you to schedule blocks of prayer, try to be sensitive to the fact that there are times when a specific need is stronger. Perhaps you may need to pray for a specific cabin leader during Discovery, or during devotions. Try to be a servant with regard other times that you pray.
