Sample Letters..

Dear School Board;

I am a resident of the South Peace area, and have children attending a school in this district. Our family appreciates the work of Camp Sagitawa, and we believe that they support the education of children in the community in many ways. We would like their brochures to be made available to children in the schools.

While we understand that the public school needs to offer a standard of education to the students of our province, it is also true that the public school is only one member of a large community. Other organizations within this community also support the education of our children, and we do not want them excluded through a blanket policy. Please word your policies carefully so that the students in our communities can not only continue to make informed decisions, but also learn to appreciate the community resources that surround them.

Respectfully,

Sample School Presentation..

Thank-you so much for giving me a moment to tell you about some of our summer camp programs. Yes, my name is Gary, and I live at Camp Sagitawa, which is on Moberly Lake, about halfway between Chetwynd and Hudson's Hope. How many of you have been to Camp Sagitawa before? (pause, high percentage of students eagerly raise their hands) Hey that's great! So many of you already know about lots of the fun things we do.

I brought lots of brochures with me, and they will be available to anyone that wants one through the school office. Inside the brochure you will see that we have lots of information about all our camps. We have a Trail Ride camp out by Clayhurst, BC (which is about an hour east of Dawson Creek). Trail Ride camps are great for anyone who wants to ride trails on a horse. They also have a zip line, swimming, and wide games. To go to Trail Rides you have to 12 or older by sometime this year. We only have 3 Trail Ride weeks of camps, and we only take about 25 campers each time, so if you want to go, you have to get your registrations in early. And this year we also have a Family Camp Ride.

We also have some SWAT camps. 'SWAT' stands for 'Sagitawa Wilderness Adventure Trips'. I love SWAT camps because you get to spend a few days in the bush, doing hikes, or canoeing down a river! And you get to spend the nights in tents along the way. To join the trips you have to be at least 11 years old or older sometime this year. We even have some family and adult trips. We have river canoe trips, hiking trips, mountain bike trips, and canyoning hiking trips. Canyoning is when you climb or rapell on ropes in a canyon and in a waterfall.

We also have lots of camp programs at our main camp site on Moberly Lake. Camp Sagitawa has camps for kids as young as going into grade 2 all the way up to grade 10. Let me read you some of the things we do at the Moberly Lake camp. "climbing wall, riflery, archery, zip line, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, knee-boarding, swimming, outdoor living, guitars, drama, puppetry, sports, wide games, crafts, tuck shop, camp outs, and more". On the other side of the brochure is lots of information about costs and which week of camp is for which age. The brochure gives you all kinds of information, or you can also email us and ask questions. Our website is on the brochure, and we also have a Facebook Fan Page that you can link to through the web site. The Fan Page has all our summer pictures from last year, and you can leave notes about your stay at camp. The back of the brochure has a letter to your parents and on the front is the name of the camp, "Sagitawa Christian Camps". It is important to remember that this is the name of the camp, and it is not about who comes. Everyone is welcome to attend camp whether you have a faith or not; so you don't have to be a Christian to come to camp, and nobody will force you to be one before you leave. We only give you information and you can decide what to do about any information you have.

Camp Sagitawa is a lot about choices. We even allow you to choose what skills you might want to be in, which friend you want to be in a cabin with, and how hard you will try in each skill. You might come to camp and you might go up our zip line tower and decide not to go down... or you might decide to go anyway, even though it is a bit scary. You can even choose if you want a brochure in the first place, and if you do take one, it doesn't mean you have to come to camp. It is still your choice. Anyone who wants a brochure, remember that they are in the camp office. And I would love to see lots of you having fun at Camp Sagitawa this summer. Thank you for your time.
