Our Staff & Volunteers..
How great it is to volunteer, knowing that you are making a difference in lives as a result!
We have lots of ways for you to volunteer, and the Quick Links at the right may be able to help you determine if Sagitawa is
the place for you to invest in others.
Are you ready to apply as summer staff? SEED, COLT, and Work Crew applicants should choose the first link, while other
Summer Staff should select the second one. All those making application for one of the paid positions should also send an
application for Summer Staff.
Please note that while Camp Sagitawa is evangelical, we are also interdenominational. Therefore we select staff from a wide
group of backgrounds. We set aside those minor differences for the sake of our central common goal.

How Can I Help?
God's greatest blessing in the lives of people is almost always through relationship with other people. People give, share quality time,
and offer love and hope. In fact, "He who does not love his neighbour, cannot love God."
Camp Sagitawa wants to share God's limitless love with people. You might ask how we do so with with limited resources. The answer
is that over the years many people like yourself have chosen to share their love for people by helping us. It is through the help of these
people, that our resources are multiplied. We are thankful.
How can you help us bless the lives of people through Christian Camping?
- Let us know you are interested in volunteering somehow
- Ask for regular prayer emails to pray for us
- Send a Child to Camp - Sponsorship Fund
- Support the Bursary Fund or the General Camp Ministry
Thank you for making the effort to share your kindness and love with people.
It Takes Many People..
Providing camp programs for almost 100 campers per week takes a lot of work. Many hours are needed to make for a safe, clean
and fun-filled environment, where campers have the opportunity to learn and grow in so many ways. We depend on our volunteers.
Work Bees occur twice a year. The Spring Work Bee is usually near the first Saturday of May, and it is common for us to see
youth groups, friends of the camp and Board Members work on various projects around the camp. Much is accomplished as
everyone does their part to rake leaves, clean windows and cabins, do construction projects, put out the docks and boats, or
paint as necessary. The Fall Work Bee in October is similar, except that it is more about preparing for winter. Trail Rides also
has a Work Bee in the spring to prepare for the coming summer. We are grateful for all that is done by so many people.
Silent Volunteering often happens in ways that nobody notices, until one day the brand new curtains appear in the
dining hall, and everyone wonders who was doing all the handiwork. Nobody tends to notice the puppet whose seam is no longer
torn, or the hall floor that got swept.
Trail Ride horses must be cared for year round. And then there is the job of culling the older horses, and training the younger
ones to take their place. This is all done by volunteers.
Summer Staff are almost all volunteer. Many staff are required to do a proper job of all our programs: Trail Rides, SWAT trips
and Moberly Lake Camps. These staff usually come and give a part of or even a whole summer for the sake of the purposes of Sagitawa.
They are happy to receive a thank-you, and to know that they helped kids have fun while learning a little more about God and His Creation.
Many will go back to school being thankful for the Bursary dollars they receive, and before the end of their first school term they are
often trying to figure out how they can come back for another summer.
Board Members are all volunteer. They give their time and gas money to attend meetings several times a year. Much is done
to keep the camp operating with a high degree of safety and care for the public who register in our programs. Board Members often
become so encouraged by what they see happening at Camp Sagitawa, that they go beyond the call of duty to give from their own
finances.
We estimate that the number of volunteer-person hours put into the camp ministry is well over 50,000 per year . The amount of money
necessary to reimburse so many people for all the work they do, would be far more than we can ever handle. All we can do is extend a
hand of friendship and gratitude, and offer a prayer of thanks to our God. His reward will not be forgotten when He utters those words,
"Well done."
Our Full Time Staff..
Gary & Audrey Pryzner
Gary is the full time Camp Director since January '97. Gary has had many years of both camping and pastoral experience, all of which
have helped to prepare him for his current role. He has worked at several other camps, as cabin leader, speaker and Board Member.
His pastoral roles in Christian Education and youth ministry have proven resourceful as well.
"If I had to choose two things I enjoy most about being a Camp Director at Sagitawa, the first would be the opportunities I have to
impact the lives of campers and staff. It is awesome to see someone learn self-confidence, or understand how it feels to lead, or to
believe for the first time that God hears them when they pray. The second is about living in the outdoors, and having different things
to do every day."
Gary's wife, Audrey, works as the Food Services and Office Manager. She enjoys children and youth as well. Gary and Audrey have
raised two children, Derek and Alyssa, both who have now left the nest for higher education in search of their own horizons.
About our Logo..
We value relationship, community and mentoring, as reflected by the two people in the canoe, and the one in front pointing
something out to the one in the back. The canoe speaks of recreation, and the paddling action has slowed to represent the
moments in life that are more important than activity, and yet the teaching component is far stronger when nested in the
recreational environment, because it brings people together. The water reflection speaks of the many opportunities at camp
to contemplate life. The small "CS" on the canoe, is a general reference to Camp Sagitawa in general
(whether Trail Rides,
SWAT, or the Main Camp.)
The Christian component is not shown specifically by design. First, it is already evident by our name, 'Sagitawa Christian
Camps'. Second, we do not wish to compartmentalize our faith, but rather teach how to live it through all parts of our lives.
The discussion in the canoe may relate to biblical elements, or it may be about getting along with others, or simply pointing
out the need to take notice of the beauty around us. All of those elements are important in the way we behave as Christians.
