Philosophy of Ministry..
Our Philosophy of ministry is given in the main text.
The italicized text describes how our philosophy affects life at camp.
The written word of God has ultimate authority and is the foundation on which Sagitawa's Philosophy is based. (2 Tim 3:16)
Parents registering their kids at Sagitawa are pleased that we are interdenominational.
We teach the central message of the gospel as held by the historical evangelical denominations. Campers are
taught from the Word of God and encouraged to read it for themselves.
The church is the Body of Christ and He Himself is the head. Thus, the ministry of Sagitawa is an integral part of the local
churches' missions department, a part of their outreach and teaching program. The Society has a decentralized organizational
structure for achieving its purposes, with small group planning, interaction and participation throughout. (Col 1:18,24; Eph 4:4-6)
Camp Sagitawa operates through the help of local churches. We are thankful for their
financial help, their wisdom on the Board, and their involvement on every level. Having many concerned
individuals involved in camp, builds a quality of safety and integrity in daily camp life.
The Great Commission, to make disciples, as stated in Matthew 28:19-20 is our directive; and all aspects of Sagitawa are aimed
at fulfilling it in the Peace River Area. Discipleship represents a productive personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Evangelism, in
a discipleship setting, is an on-going proclaiming of Christ by word and life in all aspects of camp and depends on co-operation
between camp and the churches to make mature disciples.
We work with local churches, seeking ways to assist each other. Campers already
attending a church are encouraged to continue. Information about local member church programs is provided for
other campers.
Sagitawa is a Christ-centered camp emphasizing a whole, balanced experience that does not recognize a great division between
worship, play, work, and study: "
Jesus Christ in all and through all."
An example of this is the knowledge that God loves me, whether I am at worship, play,
work or study. My particular activity does not change the truth of God. A "disciple" is "one who is taught." A real disciple
then, is not about life activity or career, but about one who trusts God in the midst of life. But this needs to be taught
by example. Therefore, we select staff whose lives depict a sincere desire to live what they believe.
Objectives..
- To promote co-operative Christian fellowship and to provide a program that is designed for evangelism and the development of Christian character in a recreative setting.
- To provide Conference facilities for Biblical and Theological studies, for leadership training and missions, and to examine the Scriptural position to social, political and moral issues.
- To operate a s a non-profit charitable organization for the benefit of all members of the area at large.
- The operations of the Society are to be chiefly carried on in the northern part of the Province of British Columbia known as the Peace River Country.
- To provide a Biblical witness to the historical Christian faith as outlined in the following evangelical statement of doctrine.
Statement of Faith..
- The Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original writings, and the supreme and final authority in faith
and life.
- God is one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died vicariously on the cross atoning for
the sin of man. He arose bodily from the grave, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will personally return to
judge all men and establish His eternal kingdom.
- Man was created in God's image, but through disobedience fell into a state of moral and spiritual corruption.
- Salvation is by grace. It is the gift of God and not received by any virtue or works of man, but rather by personal faith in Jesus
Christ through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit.
- A Christian man is enabled to live a godly life through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
- Human destiny for a Christian is the resurrection to life with Christ forever; for the non-Christian, it is a resurrection to eternal judgment.
- Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, believers constitute the body of Christ.
Dear Applicant..
We are pleased about your interest. Please enter the process prayerfully. We offer successful candidates an opportunity to live and
experience "Take it to the LIMIT" discipleship ministry ("LIfe MInistry Training"). Our desire is to equip the staff team to motivate others to
follow Christ, as we model a practical and effective ministry. The benefit is life-long.
The enclosed application provides information on our procedural and practical expectations. Please take special note of the following:
You will notice that Staff Training Camp is a required activity for the Base Camp. Applicants to the Trail Rides will benefit from this
training as well. Members of the Leadership Team will be required to attend the Leadership Team Prep. It is an exciting opportunity
to prepare for a solid summer ministry.
The 'Consent for Disclosure' of Criminal Record Information is part of the application process and needs to be taken to your local
police department with ID and a pre-stamped envelope. Follow the directions on the last page.
Make sure you read the headings on the 3 reference forms carefully. Give them to the respective persons.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely in Christ;

Gary Pryzner
Director
Staff Information..
Who Are We?
Sagitawa Christian Camps operates programs at two base locations as well as several wilderness backpacking, climbing and
canoeing trips. The main resident and year-round site (Camp Sagitawa) is on the north side of the beautiful shores of Moberly
Lake B.C. just 20 minutes north of Chetwynd on Hwy 29.
Sagitawa Trail Rides is located north of Dawson Creek, at Clayhurst, BC. The rides take place in the picturesque Alces River
valley and surrounding area.
Sagitawa Christian Camps is interdenominational. It is owned and operated by Sagitawa Christian Camping Society. Our goal is to
teach the application of Biblical Christianity for the whole life. We are supported by many individuals and churches in the Peace River
area including: Alliance, Baptist, Christian Fellowship, Community, Evangelical Free, Mennonite Brethren and Presbyterian.
We are committed to excellence in all areas and are fully accredited members of BC Camping Association and Christian Camping
International. Several Bible Schools across Western Canada recognize our training program for credit.
Experience Needed?
We welcome applications from people with no previous camping experience, as well as from seasoned staff. Your commitment to
Christ, your desire to share His love and your ability to learn and teach various activities are most important.
Who May Apply?
Applications are accepted from those 18 and older who know and love Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, relate well to children
and youth, and have a desire to be involved in a self-giving ministry.

Prayer Partners
We believe that prayer is vital to a successful ministry. Once accepted, staff are asked to find 10 people who will commit themselves to
pray for their ministry at Sagitawa every day. Please prepare a written list of addresses or contact emails so that you will be able to keep
in touch with your prayer base.
Training & Commitment
Though we look for a core staff to stay the whole summer, we also welcome those who can only stay for a portion of that time. Our
Staff Training is a pre-requisite and of great value to you..
We are serious about summer ministry. Serving Jesus Christ at camp can be very demanding; yet it will benefit you for a lifetime, and
the rewards are eternal. We want you to look back on your summer with a thankful heart for the work you so willingly put into this
summer. Our 3 weeks of Staff Training will prepare you for that.
We want to disciple you, to challenge the way you think, and to encourage you to new spiritual growth. You will develop many skills
needed to carry out your ministry (i.e. archery, climbing wall, teaching, leadership, effective discipline, Bible studies, leading campers
through decisions). Our Staff Training together with the practical experience of summer is recognized for credit by some Bible schools in
western Canada.

We are a mission organization and therefore are unable to pay salaries to summer staff. However, if you are a student continuing your
education in a post-secondary college/university, you may be eligible for to apply for assistance through our Bursary Fund Program.
Information is included in this package.
If you are not a student and have monthly expenses that need to be taken care of while at camp, please ask about options available.
Our desire is that people ministering at the resident site not be out of pocket due to mileage and other expenses. Ask how we can help.
Expectations of Staff..
Basic Pattern for Life
Camp Sagitawa asks our staff and Seed to remember that everything they say and do will affect the lives of campers. The basic behaviour
can be summed up in two passages of Scripture.
* "But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak." 1 Corinthians 8:9
* "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with
one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you
were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in
the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:12-17
Our desire is to provide an environment where your passion for Christ and your focus on ministry can be sharpened, making you more effective in
ministry. If you have questions, please contact the camp office.
Alcohol, smoking, and non-prescription drugs
We expect that you will abstain from alcohol, smoking, and non-prescription drugs, during the duration of your time at Sagitawa. This includes
any time away between camp sessions. If you come to camp with a habit and are hoping to break it while here, we ask that you inform us
about the struggle. We are gracious, but we expect honesty and integrity.
Sexual Behaviours
We expect that your talk at camp be wholesome, and that you refrain from sexual jokes and discussions. We believe that God intended sex
to take place only within the context of marriage between a man and woman. Many campers come without any idea of what God wants, and
can be taught these things in a wholesome way. If your lifestyle and teaching cannot reflect these beliefs, then Sagitawa is not the place for you.
Romance
We expect that you are coming to camp to serve campers. We believe that God honours the process of courtship. God also honours intense
ministry. There is a time for everything, and these two do not mix well for two reasons. First, it is unfair to your partner that the relationship is
constantly interrupted by intense ministry. (Summer ministry is hard enough on married couples that already have security within their
relationship.) Second, it is unfair to the camp ministry when the relationship constantly sidetracks your focus, and creates division on team.
We encourage friendship, and respect those who put desired relationships on hold for the summer. We define a romantic relationship as one
where couples begin to seek each other out regularly and exclusively. We are not going to argue about whether you are doing your work,
because what we seek is your focus. If we see that a relationship is affecting this focus, we will approach you as a couple and ask that it stop,
or that one, or both of you leave the camp ministry immediately.
Spiritual Submission
We expect our staff to desire Christ. Time will be given during training to spend lengthy personal time in prayer and listening to God. We also
provide discipling and mentoring relationships for you to grow in Christ. We ask that you come prepared to take advantage of these opportunities
with a positive outlook for what God will do in and through you this summer. (Please note that this may not apply to short term or staff brought
in for other reasons. A camper's mom assisting in the kitchen for a week is not required to fit into these spiritual aspects of camp ministry.)
General
Dress should be modest at all times. We ask female staff to wear long t-shirts over bikinis. General appearance should not draw undue attention
to yourself.
We also want you to be aware that you are coming to a remote site. Communication and travel is not always accessible, and becomes your
own expense.
Spiritual Dimension..
The Christian camp offers exciting, unique opportunities for communicating Christian faith for several reasons:
- The setting for living is definitely changed (away from home, usual friends, and the regular pattern of life), creating a
natural tendency to think more deeply about the meaning of life.
- The majesty and beauty of the Lord is continually shown from natural surroundings.
- Living with a consistent, growing Christian cabin leader creates many opportunities to develop friendship and trust,
to reveal the reality of Christ in life, and to share what "Christ has done for me."
- Christ living in each staff member is the essence of Christian camping. Since the cabin leader is seen the most,
he/she is the natural person to communicate the practicality of a living relationship with Jesus Christ. This
lays both heavy responsibility and joyous privilege on each staff member, demanding a daily disciplined lifestyle,
and commitment of time to campers. It requires that cabin leaders are trained in responsibilities and communication
techniques. The camp director needs to view himself as a resource and coach for cabin leaders, providing materials,
ideas, and encouragement.
We Value of our Staff..
Moberly Lake Site
Christian camping is no small feat! Imagine 96 campers at a lake setting, lots of recreational equipment, and 6 days away from home. Now
imagine a smooth running program, a need for safety and the added possibility of inclement weather. We depend on our volunteers, and we
train them to care for kids in every situation, while keeping spirits up with exciting ideas.
Each summer we look for about 55 volunteers to provide a quality camping experience for kids, youth and families. Many staff members are
post-secondary students, while others take time off work, or give holiday time to help us. Though many are from BC, we have also had staff
from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. On occasion international students also apply. Our volunteers commit between 1 and
16 weeks of time to Camp Sagitawa. They work hard and are appreciated.
What do we provide for our volunteers?
Camp Sagitawa provides food and accommodations for all our staff. Each person receives just over an hour per day of personal time and 1.5
days off per week. They are also given a camp T-shirt and many opportunities to invest in the lives of campers with eternal rewards. Staff
needing reimbursement for travel to and from the camp should keep receipts and turn them in for reimbursement. Contact the camp office
about our policy on maximum amounts.
Sagitawa provides five weeks of Leadership Training, followed by three weeks of Staff Training. Our training coupled with the summer experience
is recognized by several Bible Colleges for credit. We teach skills, camper care, basic counselling, teaching methods, youth work dynamics,
team training, communication techniques, accountability and discipleship. The benefit of the training is life long.
Trail Ride Site
Though the Trail Ride site operates at a smaller scale, trained staff are still needed. We look for about 15 volunteers to work with about 30
campers per session during the month of July. We offer about one day of training prior to each session. We strongly encourage our staff to
join the training sessions at our Moberly Lake site.
Criminal Record Consent..
Our policy requires that seasonal staff complete criminal record checks annually.
Two types
Name-based checks are not able to verify identities, and therefore when any name returns a red flag, the check will state that the
applicant "
may or may not" have a criminal record." Name-based checks are sufficient when they are marked "
none located".
They are also quicker and less costly (available through your
local RCMP). The RCMP will often waive the fee for volunteers who
provide a
letter from the organization.
Fingerprint-based checks prove the person's identity and provide the details of the record. Camp policy requires fingerprint-based
checks for any applicant that "may have" a criminal record. If you are aware that your record will be returned in this way, then please
(1) indicate this on your staff application, (2) disclose the basic details of that record to the Camp Director, and (3) complete a fingerprint-based
record check (available through the
Civil RCMP). If the Camp Director believes that the substance of a record has any bearing on the
safety of children, we will not be able to accept your application to serve at camp without further appeal and consideration by the Board. All
information in this regard is kept in the highest confidence at the Camp Office.
Two methods
The first method involves you physically going to a branch of the RCMP as indicated above. We would strongly suggest you follow this procedure.
The second method is for us to do it online after you arrive at camp. Our online system only works for name-based checks, and will always cost
the camp $25 per check. In most cases Camp will invoice you for the fee because you could have done it for free by following the above
guidelines.
Basic information
Since you will be working with children and youth, you will need to obtain all 3 forms. Remember to ask for the proper type of record check
from the respective branch of the RCMP. Also remember to bring 2 pieces of personal ID. It is advisable to fill the forms out while you are there
because you will also need to present the filled out forms in person. Select all 4 categories in the search request.
Please note the information below for your assistance in filling out the forms, and contact us if you have any questions.
Information for Part 2:
About our Logo..
We value relationship, community and mentoring, as reflected by the two people in the canoe, and the one in front pointing
something out to the one in the back. The canoe speaks of recreation, and the paddling action has slowed to represent the
moments in life that are more important than activity, and yet the teaching component is far stronger when nested in the
recreational environment, because it brings people together. The water reflection speaks of the many opportunities at camp
to contemplate life. The small "CS" on the canoe, is a general reference to Camp Sagitawa in general
(whether Trail Rides,
SWAT, or the Main Camp.)
The Christian component is not shown specifically by design. First, it is already evident by our name, 'Sagitawa Christian
Camps'. Second, we do not wish to compartmentalize our faith, but rather teach how to live it through all parts of our lives.
The discussion in the canoe may relate to biblical elements, or it may be about getting along with others, or simply pointing
out the need to take notice of the beauty around us. All of those elements are important in the way we behave as Christians.
